College of Packaging Engineering of JINAN University
Packaging Engineering Institute was founded at Jinan University in March 2005 and simultaneously opened the door to provide the programs in Packaging Mechanics and Engineering at both Master and Doctoral degree levels. The institute was then warranted to offer the undergraduate program in Packaging Engineering in 2006. Throughout six-year dynamic development, the institute was guaranteed to provide the Master program in Packaging Engineering. In the early of 2019, the College of Packaging Engineering was officially established based on Packaging Engineering Institute, providing high quality undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education and conducting research that advances the science and technology of packaging. Packaging Engineering was also promoted as both the strategic emerging major in Guangdong Province and the Key Disciplines Project in Zhuhai City. Meanwhile, Packaging Engineering was also selected as one of the prestigious first bath of national first-class undergraduate professional majors in China within a competitive framework.
The college covers three major divisions including Packaging Engineering Institute, Packaging Engineering Teaching and Research Office and Packaging Engineering Laboratory, which can be specifically divided into Key Laboratory of Product Packaging and Logistics of Guangdong Higher Education Institute, Key Laboratory of Product Packaging and Logistics of Zhuhai City, Joint Laboratory with China Packaging Research and Testing Center, Key Laboratory of Major Engineering Disaster and Control of Ministry of Education, Engineering Laboratory of Packaging and Logistics Safety, and Public Laboratory of Packaging Materials and Technology of Zhuhai City.
The mission of the College of Packaging Engineering at Jinan University is to educate the packaging professional based on the national strategy and the development of packaging industry, mainly focusing on the development of Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area and “the Belt and Road Initiatives”. In doing so, we contribute to cultivating leaders and talents with all-round development, comprehensive innovation ability and international vision in line with guidance of the school motto of “loyalty, sincerity, integrity and respect”.
The College of Packaging Engineering uniquely remains the engineering education concept of "student-centered, results-oriented and continuous improvement". Throughout two decades dynamic development in teaching reform, the college is positioned to create and disseminate valuable knowledge in a multi-disciplinary integration and distinctive talent training mode that advocates the integration of industry and education. Meanwhile, the college established a talent training system combining key laboratories, on-site practice bases and off-site practice bases covering an on-site practice base for mathematical modeling innovation and more than 40 off-site practice bases. Moreover, the students can be well educated with a “Engineering Mind” and “Design Innovation” via participating the training program of “Strengthening the Base” and “the Future Excellence”. More importantly, to meet the needs of rapid development of modern industrial technology, economy and society, the college has also set up two training directions such as intelligent packaging and logistics, as well as food packaging and safety.
The college is uniquely positioned at the concept of "cross-integration and characteristic development", which has built significant research expertise and earned national and international recognition in product transportation packaging and food packaging safety. Recently, the college was granted with several research grants such as National Key R&D Program, National Science and Technology Support Program, National Natural Science Foundation Project as well as the Second batch of New Engineering Research and Practice projects of the Ministry of Education. Furthermore, we won the top grade of “national first-class undergraduate courses” and the gold prize of “provincial higher education teaching achievement”.
Finally, we are also recognized as the “Associate Director Organization” of National Administry Committee on Teaching Light Industry to Majors in Higher Education under The Ministry of Education, the “Leader Organization” of Packaging Engineering Professional Steering Group, as well as the “Chairman Organization” of National Joint Meeting of Deans of Packaging Colleges and Universities.
